The Chippeway Area History Center project utilizes the vertical structures engineering discipline.

The Chippewa Area History Center stands as a testament to innovative design, structural finesse and a community’s deep-rooted values in history. As it opens its doors to the world, it invites us to celebrate our past, embrace our present, and look forward to a future where architectural marvels continue to enrich our lives and communities.

Meeting the Challenge

The core challenge was to create expansive, open spaces minimizing floor thickness and columns, allowing for maximum exhibit space. To accomplish this, the project harnessed pre-cast floor planks and a custom truss system accompanied by light-gauge steel roof trusses. This strategic combination allowed for extended spans and an unobstructed interior while maintaining structural stability and efficiency.

Enriching the Community

This project is not just a triumph in design; it’s an asset to the local community. The Chippewa Area History Center is expected to boost local tourism, attracting history enthusiasts and visitors keen on exploring the rich narrative of Chippewa Falls. Tourism benefits the local economy, supporting nearby businesses and enhancing the overall vitality of the community.

The Power of Adaptability

Despite disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project demonstrated resilience and adaptability. While adjustments were made to the timeline, the team successfully completed the project within budget, employing creative solutions to navigate supply chain shortages. This adaptability ensured the project’s completion within a reasonable extension of the original timeframe.

A Symbol of Resilience

The Chippewa Area History Center embodies resilience, unity, and the enduring power of history. It not only gives voice to the narratives that shaped the region but also celebrates its global impact, showcasing the transformative power of design.

This award-winning project is a prime example of how engineering and design work hand in hand to create spaces that are not only functional and visually striking but also deeply impactful to the communities they serve.
