Entering Firm: Ayres Associates Inc.
Client: Village of Windsor

The Yahara River bridge replacement, led by Ayres Associates, exemplifies the power of engineering to address critical infrastructure needs while fostering community engagement and sustainability. Strategically located on the boundary between the Villages of Windsor and DeForest, the project seamlessly integrated a state-let bridge replacement with DeForest’s locally led roadway reconstruction.

Ayres navigated complex environmental challenges, minimizing impacts on properties protected under Section 4(f) and Section 6(f) regulations. Their team coordinated early and often with seven utility interests, ensuring all necessary adjustments were made without delays. Collaboration with both villages and their engineers was a cornerstone of the project’s success, enabling alignment of timelines and design goals.

Public involvement played a pivotal role. A joint community meeting provided a platform to share plans and gather input, addressing concerns and fostering a sense of ownership among residents. The final design features a safer, more efficient bridge and improved roadway infrastructure, including wider lanes, shoulders and a multi-use path that enhances accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

This project highlights the value of thoughtful planning and collaboration. By uniting environmental stewardship, community input and engineering excellence, the Yahara River bridge now serves as a vital connector, promoting safety, mobility and long-term benefits for the region.
