Wisconsin Executive Order Clarity

Posted By: Andrew Heidtke ACEC WI News,

As you know, yesterday Governor Evers issued a “Safer at Home” Executive Order that temporarily shut down many businesses as Wisconsin attempts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Even though Professional Engineering wasn’t specifically mentioned in the Executive Order as I requested, ACEC WI felt confident it fell within the vague definition of an Essential Business and Essential Activity. The language includes “provides any services” to Essential Infrastructure.

However, it remained unclear if a firm could confidently continue operations and be in compliance with the order. Ricky Smith, President of raSmith, officially inquired with WEDC for clarification per the Governor’s Executive Order.

WEDC responded that under Section 13.u. considers professional services such as legal or accounting services, insurance services, real estate services (including appraisal, home inspection, and title services) to be “Essential Businesses and Operation”. Civil engineering consulting would also fall into this category.

I hope this provides additional clarity for member firms. And thank you Ricky for providing this information for all members.
