WisDOT Response to COVID-19

Posted By: Andrew Heidtke ACEC WI News,

Today, ACEC participated in call with WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson and other industry representatives to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on Wisconsin’s transportation system.

The bottom-line is Secretary Thompson said “All systems go.”  They are working every day to put themselves in a position to deliver the program and are taking all necessary steps to maintain project design and construction operations as the state deals with the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.

There is not a uniform policy on meetings. They are cancelling some, postponing others and utilizing technology as much as possible. They are making meeting decisions on a case-by-case basis. Many employees are telecommuting as much as practical and that will likely increase as the days go on.

Current construction guidance promotes social distancing as much as possible and material testing will continue while minimizing contact as much as possible.

They are utilizing technology to conduct NOI interviews remotely.

As employees move to work remotely they are confident financial staff have the ability to assure prompt payment of invoices.

ACEC WI is in constant contact with the Department to assure issues we identify as a concern or addressed. We have also asked specific design industry questions that I will share with members as soon as they respond.

Please communicate any issues or concerns you are experiencing with me as soon as possible.

As always, please let us know what we can do to assist you through this crisis.
