Ashwaubomay River Trail Bridge
2025 Engineering Excellence State Finalist
Entering Firm: GRAEF
Client: Village of Ashwaubenon
For decades, the Village of Ashwaubenon envisioned a seamless connection across Ashwaubenon Creek to unlock the full potential of its waterfront. Cleanup and revitalization of the Fox River provided the momentum needed and the Ashwaubomay River Trail Bridge emerged as the centerpiece of this vision.
This striking new bridge addresses the challenge of a safe crossing to Ashwaubomay Park and makes a bold visual statement. Designed with the community in mind, the project began with detailed studies, alignment alternatives and a robust public engagement process. Input from residents shaped key features, including navigational clearance, scenic overlooks and enhanced trail approach amenities.
A testament to collaboration, the project was funded through a unique public-private partnership, with contributions from the Village of Ashwaubenon, the State of Wisconsin and philanthropic organizations.
Completed in late 2023, the bridge is a beacon of innovation and community pride. Its ADA-accessible design, ample seating, bike stations and vibrant LED lighting enhance the trail experience while symbolizing progress. Already a catalyst for increased trail use and further extensions, the bridge redefines the Fox River waterfront as a dynamic, multi-modal corridor.
The Ashwaubomay River Trail Bridge exemplifies engineering excellence and the transformative power of community-focused infrastructure.
