Entering Firm: Jacobs
Client: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

The STH 15 corridor is a critical regional route connecting the Appleton metropolitan area to many communities in Northeast Wisconsin.  To enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve access along the highway, WisDOT partnered with Jacobs to lead the transformation of this essential corridor.

The team upgraded STH 15 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway, including a bypass to route traffic north a local community. This segment integrates a multi-use trail along the south side of the highway, separated from traffic for safety. Enhanced crossings and connections to schools, parks and businesses encourage pollution-free transportation and active lifestyles. These multi-modal additions were a big priority for the project, making the corridor more accessible for all users.

To further enhance safety, the design raised the grade at a railroad crossing for better visibility and added truck stopping lanes to accommodate heavy freight traffic. A roundabout at a highway intersection keeps traffic moving while providing safe crossings for bikes and pedestrians.

These improvements to STH 15 not only boost safety and efficiency but also foster healthier, more connected communities in northeast Wisconsin. This is a vital link in extensive improvements for the area’s growing population.
